Rustic Kitchen Decor

Other than the family room, there is no other room that welcomes and rewards the entire family as much as a rustic country kitchen. The country kitchen is where stories are told and memories of mother's cooking last a lifetime...

A rustic country themed kitchen is one that beckons the yesteryears and nostalgic decor that accompanied the period. When kitchen cupboards, pantry's, hanging cooking utensils, wall shelf's with assorted Knick-Knacks accompanied the delicious smell of pies and fresh baked home-made bread...yum...yum...

Dried flowers and long-penciled cat tails can be used in their natural colors or be mixed and dyed in fall colors. These make for a beautiful rustic display in a large rustic pottery cylinder.

Hand weaved basket and dried grapevine wreaths are visually stunning and capture perfectly the rustic country kitchen appeal. Beautiful country landscape wall art helps to establish a serene and peaceful setting.

If you have a beautiful scene outside, and if privacy isn't of major concern, opt for leaving windows free of treatments. If you do need to cover them, look for paisley, checks and gingham. Bamboo blinds and shutters with swags or cafe curtains, all are beautiful on a rustic curtain pole, with matching tie backs and finials.

Accessories in the rustic kitchen are simple, take a walk in the woods or in your back yard. Look for acorns, pinecones, twigs, hollowed out logs. These fit perfectly in your decor.

Make a point to visit flea markets, thrift shops, estate sales and junk yard. You'll be surprised at the treasures people throw away at the junk yard. Management may not let you browse around so ask an employee if they have put back and old vintage items they may have come across.

Stone floors are very popular in rustic kitchens, although this may not always be possible, depending on financial or renting, etc. restrictions, so of course wood floors will also be fine in this room. Don't forget the braided rugs for added comfort.

When choosing paint colors, consider colors found in nature. They should be warm and welcoming, such as, deep rich browns, burnt orange, rust, tans, and greens.

For rustic kitchen decorating, your lighting choices play a huge part, look for antler chandeliers, wrought iron chandeliers, hurricane lamps and scented candles in rustic candle holders.
