Primitive Kitchen Decorating

Simple Treasures From The Past - This theme is reminiscent of friendlier times and the slower pace of the past.

Primitive Kitchen Ideas and decorating accessories are easily found when shopping at flea markets, antique auctions and estate sales, as these are perfect places to find gently timeworn items to decorate your kitchen

Keep your eyes peeled for favorite kitchen accessories, such as, refurbished or antique kitchen gadgets. Hand crank mixers, rolling pins, mortar and pestles, butter molds, pitchers, creamers, ladles, scoops, spatulas, etc. etc., these are great to display on shelves.

Other time worn favorites found in primitive kitchens are metal, copper, enamelware, pottery, vintage recipe boxes and prairie aprons.

Apple, sunflower, chili pepper, hearts, stars, saltbox houses, crows and sheep are just a few of the popular themes for the primitive kitchen.

Compliment your windows with early american period homespun curtains, panels, swags, tiers and/or valances any of these work well with this theme. Some favorite patterns to choose from are plaid, stripes or solid patterns.

Shelves hung to display primitive bowls, rustic baskets, crocks, crows, roosters, berries and rusty tin wire items. Primitive Forged Iron, Wooden Ware,Treenware and Redware are all very popular for primitive decorating Ideas.

The primitive kitchen is great for displaying vintage needlepoint, plaques and signs with verses and folk art prints.

Primitive Lighting ideas can be found in wooden or tin chandeliers, tin lanterns, punched tin lighting and wall sconces.

Furniture should be simple and made of aged wood, reclaimed barn wood or handcrafted wood reproduction pieces. When shopping for furniture look for Farm tables, harvest tables, side board, pie safes, apothecary cabinets and dry sinks.

Some of my favorite paint colors for a primitive kitchen are country green, antique white, honey brown, terra cotta, celery, salmon, teal, indigo blue, barn red and moss green. Accent colors can be colonial red, black and adirondack green.

If you are fortunate, in that you can add flooring of your choice, wood floors are always the ideal choice in this style decor. A few of my all time favorites are antique hemlock, heart pine, or white pine flooring. Braided, hooked or rag rugs, used on wood flooring really help tie all the elements together.
