Garden Container Plants

Creating different elevations shows plant and container garden planter's at their best. Give your pots a little height while adding fashion to your garden. Planter feet may be all you need for elevation you need. There are many motifs to choose from, such as, simple leaves for a natural feeling or lion claws for old world elegance. These simple accessories not only give your garden containers a finished look, but they also significantly improve drainage, which is especially important if pots are to be left out in the winter.

Another great way to show off your containers is by using pedestals. Pedestals have the ability to capture the eye and direct it to where you want to concentrate interest. One pedestal will anchor the setting for a grouping while using two pedestals will define an entryway.

The pedestal you chose should always be in proportion to the shape and size of the pot. Tall gardening containers look best with a short low pedestal.

Bring fragrant flowers and delicate blossoms up to eye and nose level with a taller pedestal. Consider the texture and color of a container, choosing a style that complements the other.

Container Garden...Supporting Cast

Help a rising star. You can use planters with vertical gardens too. Train small vines or weave loosely shaped plants through a iron obelisk, bamboo trellis, or tuteur for additional dimension to your planter design.

The shape and size of the supporting structure should coordinate with the size of the planter. Experiment with flowering vines such as a mandevilla or patio clematis to create an elegant and interesting composition.

For example, a glazed container with a rich glaze and distinctive shape creates an immediate visual in the garden. The undulating edge and luminous color reflect the calm, feel of a water garden.
