Kitchen Cabinets...New or Refinished

cabinets New cabinets for your kitchen will make you feel like you have a new home. You will find many options for kitchen cabinets that come pre-made. Of course, if money isn't an object you may wish to explore having someone custom build your kitchen cabinets.

As the new kitchen cabinets will make the kitchen, the hardware will make the cabinet. Pre-built cabinets offer many hardware options. Carefully match the hardware with the finish to acquire the look of your choice. Cabinet knobs will vary from eloquent to antique knobs.

Another option for updating your kitchen cabinets is to refinish the cabinets yourself. If you are satisfied with your existing cabinet layout, refinishing the cabinets is a lot easier than you may think.

First, you'll want to take the cabinet doors off and the drawers out. Removing pulls, knobs and hinges. The cabinet doors and drawers can be sanded or stripped of old paint. Once this is done you will want to use a wood stain that matches or compliments your floor, walls or countertop surfaces.

Kitchen cabinets are made from many types of wood, including maple, oak, pine, cherry, hickory walnut and birch. Take the time to research the cabinetry maker and materials used. After all, quality should be your number one consideration.

It is wise to avoid cabinets made from particle board. This material will not withstand the test of time. Although the cabinet may look nice on the surface, you will find that over time, cabinets made from these materials will swell and sag and are not tolerant of humidity.

Shop for cabinets that are constructed from all wood. When choosing cabinet color, remember that dark colors will make the area look smaller as opposed to light colors giving the appearance of a larger area.

Redecorating your kitchen cabinets and or countertops will add beauty and value to your home for years to come.
